Familia ry is arranging an open-enrolment Beginners’ Finnish course. The course will start from zero, so you don´t need to know any Finnish at all, but you must be familiar with the Latin alphabet and you should be fluent in reading and writing.
During the intensive course, you will be studying basic phrases, vocabulary and grammar and speaking, reading, writing and listening to Finnish. The course will include plenty of homework. The aim of the course is to help you to start using Finnish in everyday life. The textbook used is Gehring-Heinzmann: Suomen mestari 1. The Teacher of the course is Hanna Nikkanen.
The course consists of five study hours per day, 20 hours a week and 160 hours in total. In addition, you need time for the homework. Classes will take place from Monday to Thursday, at 10.00 am to 14.15 pm. There are no classes on Fridays.
The course takes place at the Familia´s premises in the centre of Helsinki. The course fee is 240 €, and it includes course materials provided by the teacher, but not the textbook. The textbook must be bought by the student.
Registration begins on Monday 24.4. at 10.00 and continues thereafter Mon-Fri at 10.00-14.00. Participants are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Some of the places at the course are reserved for people with Finnish spouses who can also participate other activities organised outside the course time. Registrations should be made in person at the Familia office at Yrjönkatu 29A (Kamppi). The entrance is between Pizzeria Barbarossa and Amos Anderson Museum.
The registration fee is 50 € (in cash) and it must be paid at the registration. The remaining part (190 €) can be paid later before the beginning of the course. The registration fee will not be reimbursed if the participant decides not to take part in the course. If you are registered as a jobseeker at the Employment and Economic Development Office (TE-toimisto), ask there in advance if the course can be accepted as a part of your integration plan. The course is arranged in cooperation with the Kansan Sivistystyönliitto KSL.
