Familia, established in 1988, is a politically and religiously non-affiliated registered association. Our purpose is to support the two-way integration of people who have moved to Finland for various reasons or have born in Finland. The association is the leading expert
and advocate of intercultural families.
There are over 60 nationalities represented in the Familia members.

What is the objective of the association?

The objective of Familia is to support the two-way integration of people living in Finland. The association works to ensure that equality and non-discrimination are realised in Finnish society.

What is Familia’s mission? 

Familia brings together people living in Finland, regardless of their origin, language or cultural background. The purpose of our activities is to support the two-way integration of those who have moved to Finland for different reasons and those born in Finland.

The association provides those who have moved to Finland, those born in Finland and intercultural families with a range of activities, such as Finnish language courses and discussion groups (both online and in person), Duo Mother and Baby groups and Duo Family Training.

The association also actively promotes its activities and makes initiatives and proposals to the authorities and other decision-makers on matters of importance, in particular, to intercultural families. 
Familia endeavours to work toward a society in which people who move to Finland for different reasons and members of intercultural families are treated the same as other Finns, in terms of legislation, the planning of services and the various aspects of daily life.

Who are these activities for?

Familia’s Duo activities are specifically meant for those living in intercultural relationships and families, as well as Finns with an intercultural background. Duo activities welcome the participation of all those whose everyday lives are characterised by an aspect of interculturalism: children, young people, parents, grandparents, relatives and friends.
