types of volunteering at familia
peer support
In Familia's peer support activities, volunteers can share their experiences and support their peers.
At Familia we have peer support activities for the parents of intercultural families, mothers with babies under one year old, fathers, job-seekers and intercultural couples waiting for their residence permit or looking for jobs. Our peer support groups are meant for people who have an intercultural family. To become a volunteer, you don't always necessarily need to be in an intercultural family yourself, but you need to have a personal and/or professional experience of the participants' life situation. |
Clubs and workshops
Clubs and workshops are activities where everyone is welcome to participate as they are. The activities are mainly led and created by volunteers.
If you have your own idea, let us know about it and let's build your own activity together! Examples of activities:

communications volunteers
Communications volunteers produce content for Familia's blog and social media. As a volunteer you can use your own skills and experience to benefit others and to raise awareness for the issues of intercultural families in Finnish society.

Who can volunteer AT Familia?
If you want to contribute to supporting intercultural families of Finland, you are welcome to be a volunteer at Familia! Our peer activities require that you are familiar, through personal or professional experience, with the participants’ situations. We value the knowledge and skills of ordinary people - you don’t have to be an expert to volunteer with us!
Our groups and activities are mainly in English and Finnish, but we strongly encourage you to let us know if you would like to lead an activity in another language!
Our volunteering is flexible and we take into consideration your life situation by offering different lengths of volunteer assignments that don’t necessarily require a long commitment. We also offer volunteer assignments online, so you can participate in volunteer activities from anywhere in Finland.
Familia stands against discrimination and welcomes you as a volunteer regardless of your gender, sexual orientation, age, education level, political orientation, religion, language skills, country of origin or disabilities.
